The Journal of Environmental Education Research and Sustainable Development (JEERESD) publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed work that advances understanding of environmental challenges and supports fair, practical and sustainable responses.
The journal encourages interdisciplinary research that connects natural and social sciences, education, public health, technology, policy and community experience. It gives particular visibility to work grounded in Africa and the Global South while welcoming comparative and international studies from every region.
JEERESD seeks to strengthen dialogue among researchers, educators, practitioners, communities and policymakers and to make credible evidence openly accessible to readers worldwide.

01Original research articles
Report new empirical findings obtained through quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods.

- Materials and methods: design, setting, participants or materials, sampling, variables, data collection, analysis and ethical approval

Specific requirement: Authors should follow the reporting guideline appropriate to the design, such as STROBE, CONSORT, COREQ or ARRIVE, where applicable.
02Review and systematic review articles
Critically synthesise existing evidence and identify consistent findings, disagreements and research gaps.

- Methods: databases, complete search strategy, dates, eligibility criteria, screening, quality appraisal and synthesis approach

Specific requirement: Systematic reviews should follow PRISMA and include a flow diagram and reproducible search strategy. Narrative reviews must clearly explain how sources were selected.
03Case studies
Analyse a clearly bounded programme, community, institution, ecosystem, intervention or environmental event.

- Introduction: problem, relevance and purpose of the case
- Context and case description: location, actors, timeline and defining characteristics
- Methods or sources of evidence
- Intervention, observations or outcomes
- Discussion: interpretation, lessons learned, transferability and comparison with other cases

- Ethics or consent information where relevant, declarations and references
Specific requirement: The manuscript must explain why the case is informative beyond its immediate setting and avoid identifying participants without appropriate consent.
04Short communications
Present a focused, timely and original result that does not require a full-length research article.

- Title, concise structured abstract and keywords
- Brief introduction with one clearly defined objective
- Materials and methods with enough detail for evaluation or replication
- Results
- Combined discussion and conclusion, or separate sections where clearer
- Ethical approval where applicable, declarations and references
Specific requirement: The paper should remain tightly focused on one principal message. Preliminary findings must be sufficiently robust and must not be divided artificially from a larger study.
05Perspectives and commentaries
Offer an evidence-informed interpretation, argument or forward-looking position on an important issue.

- Alternative viewpoints, uncertainties or limitations

Specific requirement: Arguments must be balanced, transparent and supported by relevant evidence. Personal opinion alone is not sufficient.
06Policy and practice papers
Translate research, implementation experience or programme evaluation into actionable policy or professional guidance.

- Policy or practice problem and its environmental or sustainability context
- Evidence base and methods used to select or assess evidence
- Institutional, community and stakeholder context
- Analysis of the intervention, policy options or implementation experience

- Monitoring or evaluation indicators, limitations and conclusion
- Declarations and references
Specific requirement: Recommendations should follow directly from the evidence and consider feasibility, equity, resources and the context in which they will be applied.
Required for every submission
A separate title page must identify all authors, affiliations, ORCID identifiers and the corresponding author. The anonymous manuscript must include funding, conflicts of interest, author contributions, data availability, acknowledgements, ethical approval or consent where applicable, and complete references.
Manuscripts are accepted in English or French. All submissions undergo editorial screening and, where appropriate, independent double-blind peer review.
